Sitting in my sunny office window on a quiet cul-de-sac just outside North Branch, I usually have a pretty good idea of who’s who and what’s happening in the neighborhood
. But not long ago, something unusual caught my eye. Two men rode past on bikes, wearing bright yellow – nothing startling, just not a scene I’d seen before.
When they rode past again to leave, I realized they weren’t just any cyclists – they were police officers.
A few days later, at our Chamber luncheon, I learned why. The Dickey’s Barbecue Pit here in town, through The Dickey Foundation, had worked hard to secure grants that provide funding and equipment for police, fire, and EMS departments across the country including right here in North Branch.
Police Chief Dan Meyer shared his appreciation, emphasizing how the new e-bikes will enhance local patrols and community engagement:
“These e-bikes will give our officers greater access during patrols and community events, especially in areas that are harder to reach with traditional vehicles,” said Meyer. “We’re extremely grateful to The Dickey Foundation and Dickey’s Barbecue for this generous support.”
